We are so excited to be one of the first brands worldwide to include Pinatex in our vegan handbag collection! This is a natural, innovative and patented new material, made from pineapple leaf fibres gathered by partner farming cooperatives in the Philippines.
Piñatex® fibres are the by-product of the pineapple harvest, which brings new income streams to subsistence farmers, allowing them to fully utilize their crops. This material is composed of 80% pineapple leaf fibres and 20% PLA fibres. Natural and vegan, Pinatex is sourced in the Philippines and finished in Spain. No extra land, water, fertiliser or pesticides are required to produce the raw material. No pineapples are harmed in the making of Pinatex!
Piñatex® fabric has a unique and distinctive look and is also very durable. The maker of Piñatex® recommends using Liquiproof Protector™, a natural non-toxic coating that will make the product water and stain resistant, as well as waxing this fabric regularly to keep it in top condition. Our cork fabric is sourced from Portugal, which is known for producing the world’s most beautiful cork. Cork, the bark of the cork oak tree, is beautiful, waterproof, stain resistant and durable. The harvesting of cork is done in a sustainable manner so that no tree is damaged during the process - the harvesting actually helps the tree absorb CO2 and therefore the environment.
The harvesting of cork also creates well paid agricultural jobs and the financial viability of cork helps provide long term habitat protection for hundreds of animal and plant species. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) “cork oak forests support one of the highest levels of biodiversity among forest habitats, as well as the highest diversity of plants found anywhere in the world”.
ITALIAN VEGAN LEATHER
Our vegan leather PU (polyurethane) is sourced from Italy from a family-owned factory that supplies various high-end European luxury designers. This eco-conscious factory has installed photovoltaic generators on the roofs in order to produce green energy and save Co2. Their processes are constantly monitored in order to provide an a-toxic product, fully compliant with the recent "REACH" European norm which is much more stringent than other countries.
The result is a high-tech, durable and luxurious fabric that resembles high-end exotic leather. This enables us to work with materials that honor the beauty of animal skins, without the cruelty.
